I've been looking around and haven't found very many books for ages 9-12. Here are ones that I liked: Savvy, Mysterious Benedict Society, Percy Jackson, The Order of Odd-Fish.

Dungeon Crawlers: Episode 1 and Dungeon Crawlers: Episode 2, by Stefan LeBlanc (Amazon and Barnes & Noble)

I agree with Janice. My son does not normally enjoy reading but had no problem finishing both of Mr. LeBlanc's novels. Great choice.
