Books like Sookie Stackhouse series asked 696 days ago by Kim - 6 answersWhat are some series of books like the Sookie Stackhouse series? Charlaine Harris has written several other series of books. They don't involve vampires, but they are mysteries. Try Dakota Cassidy's "Accidental" books. They have female main characters that are accidentally changing into...vampires, werewolves, demons, etc. Accidentally Demonic, Accidental Human...the love scenes will make you blush!! Kim Harrison writes a series called The Hollows about a witch living in Cincinnati with a vampire roommate. She has a vamp boyfriend in a few of the books and there are also elves, pixies, banshees and demons. I really liked the series although it seems to be going downhill of late. The first book is called "Dead Witch Walking." Richelle Mead writes a series about a female succubus living in the Pacific Northwest who is a reluctant minion of Hell. It sounds really silly but those books are surprisingly both funny and sad and are totally original. The author has an MA in comparative religion. The first in that series is "Succubus Blues." Nancy Collins has a series about a character named Sonja Blue who was turned into a vampire against her will and now is a vampire killer. The first in that series is "Sunglasses After Dark." Tanya Huff has a series about a private investigator in Canada who has a sometime partner/love interest who is a vampire. She has an interesting twist because she is going blind from a condition called retinitis pigmentosa which forced her to quit the police force. The first book is "Blood Price." You may have also run into Laurell K. Hamilton as she and Charlaine are the most famous authors in urban fantasy. Hamilton's Anita Blake series has a great setting but wooden dialogue and her latter books in the series were controversial amongst fans and they featured explicit sex (and LOTS of it, some might say to the detriment of the plot.) The first five or six books were decent though. Charlaine Harris has a slightly darker series called The Harper Connelly Series; it's about a woman who can find dead bodies. It begins with "Grave Sight" and is just fantastic. On the lighter side, many people have been comparing the Jane True Series by Nicole Peeler to the Sookie Series - quite favorably, too. Jane is a woman who discovers she is part Selkie, and the discovery kicks off a fabulous, fun, sexy journey into a new life. Book #1 is called "Tempest Rising." It's part of the smart new generation of urban fantasy, and the series is excellent. Another fun, smart, character-driven series is the Justine Jones series by Carolyn Crane, which kicks off with a book entitled Mind Games. The series follows the adventures of woman who gets drafted into a psychological hit squad full of neurotic characters who fight paranormal crime. It's sexy and thrilling and extremely intelligent, taking up ethical and philosophical issues in a really humorous way. Thanks for all the suggestions, I better get reading! Lynn Viehl wrote the 'darkyn' novels which are about vampires with certain special abilites and they are wonderfully written. Also, check out the 'undead' series by mary janice davidson, they are halarious! The main characture of the undead series is a very catty new vampire who isn't your normal bite and become vampire, but she definitely has bite!
