Children's story about a little girl in the forest asked 418 days ago by Janet - 9 answersYears ago I had a book of children's stories and one of the stories was about a little girl that went into the forest and along the way she was able to use items to help her - one thing I remember was a ribbon. I believe there was either a witch or a grandmother named something like "babayga." Sound familiar to anyone? anything like this? Baba Yaga and Vasilia the Brave http://www.amazon.com/Baba-Vasilisa-Brave-Marianna-Mayer/dp/0688085008 Baba Yaga. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_sq_top?ie=UTF8&keywords=baba%20yaga%20books&index=blended&pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=1558585931&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1WB6N291VH77QN8JJ1X1k Baba Yaga is a generic name for old witch or hag in a lot of Russian and Slavic tales. The book is likely going to be a collection of folk tales, both because of the name, and because the using items along the way given to you at the start is a common folk tale theme. I dunno the particular tale you are mentioning, but having baba yaga as a search term might help you find it!
This sounds like the Russian folk tale "Baba Yaga": I think you're talking about Bony Legs by Joanna Cole. It's a bout a little girl that escapes from this old witches house using a mirror and a comb that were given to her by Bony Leg's cat and dog. Baba Yaga is a Russian folktale. I've seen a few versions, including "Bony-legs," by Joanna Cole. Baba Yaga and the Little Girl? Or one of the other, many, Baba Yaga books? lots of stories no concrete book. east european folklore have the figure of witches or old ladies called Babayaga (babayagas in the english plural). They live in the forest, know all the plants & herbs which are used for medicine & withcraft. They live in chicken leg houses. And Mussorgsky made a composition about it. I will check my foklore & symbols book asap & try to come with an answer, namely title of a book or story. Our library has a book called Grandma Chicken Legs that sounds kinda like the one in the question.
