Fiction/biographies/history titles with lessons about networking? asked 750 days ago by Shannon - 2 answersI'm seeking fiction/biographies/history titles with lessons about the importance of, or how-tos of, networking. Have already done traditional business and self-help titles on the topic. Am inspired by list here, Great Novels with Important Messages for Leaders. Thanks! Shannon, this is a tricky one to answer -- I'll post it to Twitter and see what people come up with. In the meantime, take a look at The Business of Happiness by Ted Leonsis. It's half memoir/half "how to be happy". While it doesn't have any focus on networking per se, it's clear that Ted thinks a lot of his success in life comes from the people he knows and the way in which he connects with them.
Peter Shannon, I'd like to suggest a book about a young career woman who found herself as the sole caretaker of two small children and an elderly mother when the Nazi Germans attacked her hometown of Warsaw. Rulka Langer wrote "The Mermaid and the Messerschmitt," to illustrate what ordinary people go through when tragedy strikes. Rulka, who'd gone to Vassar College on a scholarship and worked in Warsaw as an advertising copywriter, recognized that the citizens of a bombed-out city needed ways to communicate with each other. So she started small bulletin to help survivors find each other, making enough money to feed her family during the occupation. Social media in WW2! Rulka and her children eventually escaped to America, and she went on to write and lecture about the threat posed by Nazi Germany before American involvement. She was a gutsy, resourceful woman who was very, very lucky. Debbie
