Help! Trying to find a cookbook for kids who are allergic to nuts (of any kind). Thanks! asked 159 days ago by Bert - 2 answers

I am an adopted aunt of a boy 7, and a girl, 11 - both are terribly, terribly allergic to ALL nuts. They just can't get anywhere near nuts, much less eat them! U cannot buy any type of food item unless I know it has NOT been made at a place that has made nut products.... so the place has to be totally nut free.

So my solution is to find the right cookbook for their age and absolutely no nut recipes. Can't be too complicated; don't want to scar them for life and they no longer attempt to cook!

Merry Christmas to all and hope you will send suggestions asap! Christmas is sooo near!! Aunt Bert

As an adult woman who has dealt with a lifelong deathly allergy to peanuts, I can tell you that there is probably not a cookbook published that is completely nut-free. What would be more valuable for the kids is to show them either how to change the recipe so that you don't include nuts if possible, or just don't use the recipes in the book that have nuts. They are going to be dealing with this allergy their whole life, so they need to learn to cook -- I just don't think it's realistic to expect to find a nut-free cookbook. Work around all the great regular cookbooks that are out there -- just don't use the recipes that don't work for your family. I think it's great that you're working so hard to make things safe for your niece and nephew -- believe me, I know how tough it is.

Thanks. After all the searching, I think you are right, but will keep looking for a few more days. Thanks so much for the advice!
