Tough call. If you look at Amazon, they say it's for 10th grade and up. Then again, they say the same thing about the Twilight books and I expect a LOT of 12-year-olds have read Twilight. (Has your daughter read Twilight? Would you let her read Twilight?)

Any parents want to chime in?

Thanks Peter. She has read Twilight but before I realised she'd finished all 3! The 1st movie had an age restriction of 10, I think, so I wasn't concerned but they seem to increase to 13 and the next one I believe will be 16.

There is some swearing and sexual situations- I'd probably hold off until 14 or so. It's definitely more adult than Twilight.

Try Cynthia Voigt's Homecoming series for this age, unless you want her to be into boys before her time. The more strong girls you can expose her to, the better off she'll handle that societal pressure at 13 to be female first instead of smartest or fastest or funniest.

I've read the whole H.O.N. series, and Im 13. I've read Twilight too, but I'd have to say, Twilight is more inappropriate, and anyways, there isnt a lot of swearing, here and there throughout the series, and at our age, we've all heard swears, but if we read them, we dont nesassarily start swearing. I've read some other series that I've loved, and she might like, and I can tell you them, if you'd like. They're all appropriate.

Im seventeen, almost eighteen and some of the situations in the HON series are pretty extreme for a twelve year old. I read the series when I was sixteen and if i hadnt known the sexual abilities already i would have been asking my mother about them. They are nothing like Twilight. P.C. Cast is a writing of adult fiction books. So i would be cautious.
