I have a fairly old book which I think is either the original or an early reprint.. asked 259 days ago by David - 3 answersOkay guys, so I stumbled upon a book at an auction today-- "Evangeline" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The original book was a "pocketbook" from 1847.. 2 in. long. The book I have, however- Is a normal sized book, bound in soft leather, and looks to be fairly old. It has a faded sketch on the cover the title across the bottom. It doesn't have a copyright date and I can't find anything like it on the web. If this vague description sounds like anything you've ever heard of- I'd appreciate it if you let me know. :D This may well be a dumb question ... but have you looked up original printers of his work to see if he self published at any times. This may take some research time, but would be well worth the time. Also have you checked any books on his life (biography) to see if there is any mention about this book being published by him before becoming known? I know this isn't what you were hoping to get but it might lead you to your answer. Unless you have already checked this out and no luck.... :-( You may want to check with an antique book dealer-- not sure where you're located, David, but they're around in most cities. Might be worth bringing it in for a quick appraisal. Eric, yeah I'm really considering it- the book is in pretty bad shape for traveling and there aren't any really good antique book dealers where I live.-- Bert I might just try that.
