New parents' book club recommendations asked 114 days ago by Jen - 2 answers

I'm starting a book club for new parents, and I'm looking for suggestions with two characteristics:
1. Not about raising children. The point is to talk about something other than babies.
2. Structured in a way that would allow people to contribute something even if they've only read a short section (20-30 pages). We have varying amounts of time, and I don't think anyone will show if the selection is a novel.

I'm thinking about things like Freakonomics. They can be silly or serious, fiction or nonfiction. I'd even be interested in collections of well-written articles available online. Any favorites?

Bert says:

Right off the top of my head, I'd suggest Malcom Gladwell's "Tipping Point" - should be able to find this at a reasonable price on Amazon (via FLW of course!). Pretty much anything by Gladwell.

Are you interested in any Christian books to discuss? if so, check out Phillip Yancy's books - not only excellent writing but thought provoking.

Enjoy the book club.

Jen (who asked the original question) says:

Thanks! Malcolm Gladwell is a great suggestion. We're a pretty mixed lot religion-wise, so probably no explicitly Christian books, but Yancy will be perfect for a lot of other people looking for similar suggestions, so I'm glad you put it out there.
