Old fairy-tale series with a pink hardback cover? asked 733 days ago by Mia G. - 3 answers

When I was little I had what I remember as a beautiful set of small hardback books, with illustrated end papers and different stories in each one. One story is the one with the girl who has to weave shirts of nettle so her swan brothers can be human, and one was a beautiful princess and an evil queen and something about her bath turning the girl into a frog... I think they had pink hardback covers and maybe gold embossed titles. I had them in the 80's but I think they might be up to 30 years older than that. Vague, I know - do they ring any bells???

Sean N. says:

The story you describe sounds like
The Wild Swans by Hans Christian Andersen
Does this help?

Gillian says:

The Story you are talking about, the girl who has to make shirts for her brothers to reverse the curse which has turned them into swans, is "The Six Swans" by the Brothers Grimm. The fairy tale collections you describe sound very much like the "Fairy" series by Andrew Lang. They were published in the early 1900's, but have been re-published many times, with each volume in the series having a different color cover.

Thank you both so much!!! I think it might actually be the 'Fairy' books that I remember. :-) x Mia
