What are some great motivational / self help books for kicking your life up a notch? asked 778 days ago by Chris - 5 answersThere's so much B.S. out there... what is worth reading? Chris, I'm in the middle of "Do More Great Work" by Michael Bungay Stanier and loving it. It helps you identify what's important in your life and what isn't, and then gives you tools to focus on the important and get rid of the rest. The writing style is surprisingly light and the book is well-designed; it's not some boring grey business book-- there's lots of color and graphics and interesting sidebars and such. I'm liking it a lot. I'd say it depends on your frame of reference for where you're coming from (e.g. what you're trying to improve in your life). If you haven't read Think and Grow Rich, ignore the title and know that most self help books from the past century were likely heavily influenced by it. The back story of Napolean Hill makes it all the better. It has good timeless advice -- including a chapter about how people historically start to reach their potential in their 40s. I'll leave the cliffhanger about why! In the early 60s I read a _little_ book, "Try Giving Yourself Away" by David Dunn. I have forgotten it. So positive about how to make life happier by kindness to others and self. Haven't seen it since I read it nor do I hear anyone talking about it. Too bad! Worth the read and purchase. Looked on Amazon and they have it! It was written in the 50s. For me, its my own 'classic'. Enjoy!
Have you read any of the books by Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks? They're all pretty wonderful. Billy says: I just finished an amazing new memoir called Fine...ly, My Story of Hope, Love, and Destiny. You will not be able to put this book down--everyone that I've recommended it to has said the exact same thing. The woman who wrote the memoir tells a compelling story that is extremely powerful and very uplifting. There is an exciting surprise ending but I won't spoil it for you! It is written by Randi G, Fine and I bought it on Amazon.
