Diane M. says:

House of God is the first one that comes to mind
Michael Crichton was a doctor, too.

Jane T. (who asked the original question) says:

I really loved House of God and have read the books by Crichton. Thanks!

Diane M. says:

It's not a novel, but there's also "If You Meet the Buddha on the Raod, Kill Him!"

Jane T. (who asked the original question) says:

I love the title. Will follow up on this.

Thanks!

Jane

Bert says:

Any of the books by Atul Gaiwande: Complications - a Surgeon's notes on an imperfect science; Better - a Surgeon's notes on performance; The Checklist Manifesto - How to Get Things Right. This doctor has such a lyrical touch to explaining the abstract and unknown, along with the realities of science. I have never forgotten his writing because of this. Think you will enjoy his books.

Cindy G. says:

Abraham Verghese -- wonderful writer. His nonfiction is good too.

Claire says:

Khaleed Hosseini (The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Sons) is a doctor and a great writer.

Moe S. says:

I liked Tess Gerritson's The Sinner, a lot. She's a retired M.D. and has written several medical thrillers including Harvest, Bloodstream, Life Support, Gravity and The Bone Garden.

F. Paul Wilson, creator of Repairman Jack, is a doctor. His specialty is Lovecraftian sc-fi/horror.

Bert says:

Moe, what is Lovecraftian sci-fi/horrow?

Moe S. says:

It involves a normal, human protagonist who finds himself faced with agents of what is only described as "The Otherness", a different reality that's antagonistic to human life, but wants access to our world. The one to start with is The Tomb.
