how was the city of ember discovered

i have read the book i have faint memory but i think its about a girl who follows clues either with or without a boy finally reaching a tunnel finding a city of ember under water in the tunnel

This was a very good book. Its about an undergrand city thats been existing for years with no knowledge of the world above. The city was only ment to last a certain amount of time. The book tells of the adventure some kids have trying to save the city. The series its self is very good. i have read it many of times. You should defenitly read!!!
