looking for a good book for a mother and her 26 year old daughter can read together asked 598 days ago by Neena - 4 answers

My mothers birthday is this wednedsay, september 29, yes I know this is alittle last minute, though its hard for me to get her anything. She's the type of mother who stops everything for her 3 "adult" children, yes we all still do live at home, all work and all are in grad school!!! But instead of the usual candles that she prefers, I wanted to think of something me and her could both benefit from. I rarely read, now a days its MBA books, but I want to start reading for pleasure. My mother means the world to me and I am looking for a book that shows the relationship between a mother and her adult child, a 26 year old adult child. I am not married, going to grad school and still live with my parents. My mother is a nurse who works at my fathers office, she does anything for anyone, an example she drove 3 hours every week to her mothers house to take care of her when she was dying of cancer. My mother is very family oriented and has a heart of gold. I want this book to tell a story that both mother/daughter who have different lives and struggles, though no matter what happens there always going to mother and daughter but best friends also. Yes I know this is probably a book in itself, haha...but I would love everyones options on book to read together.

Molly D. says:

Try the memoir "Come Back: A Mother and Daughter's Journey Through Hell and Back"
My mother and I both read it separately and it had a profound effect. Even, I'd venture to say, bringing us closer. The subject matter isn't the easiest to stomach but it's an incredibly beautiful story and really illustrates just how strong the bond is between mother and daughter.

Karen says:

My daughter and I both read and enjoyed "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hossieni. It follows the story of a woman in Afganistan. It touched both of us deeply.

Laura says:

"The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. This was a book I picked for myself, my cousin, my mom and three aunts to read together when we went on vacation. It was loved by all of us. Ages ranged from 32 to 74!

Elaine says:

Tamarind Mem, the story goes back and forth between the mother's point of view and that of the daughter's.
