The story takes placee in England and more specifically in London. its about a young girl who enters an arranged marriage, she is in love with her husband and think him to be the best of men. He on the other hand continous to live life like before he was married sleeping around and generally making a fool of her behind her back. The husband ends up vanishing and is missing for a long time. the wife in the mean time through ton gossip has realized how innocent she was and who her husband really was and is angry to be made a fool of. thinking her husband is dead she is about to marry his cousin when at the last moment at the church actually her husband appears alive and the wedding does not happen. the husband is angry thinking he would find his adoring wife and finding her about to marry his cousin he thinks she is in love. the subploat is the husbands vanishing was orchastrated by the cousins mother and brother who wanted him gone so their family could get the title and the inheritance. I consulted a romance expert via a librarian listserv -- and she consulted a couple other experts via a romance-specific listserv -- and they came up with: Something Wonderful by Judith McNaught. Here's a description that does sound very similar -- http://www.allreaders.com/topics/Info_7564.asp -- hope this is the one you were looking for!
